Berlin-based artist Jonathan Esperester uses the medium of painting analogously to memory. For inspiration, he draws on his private photo archive and extracts motifs from their original environment and chronology. Through this collage-like branching, anachronistic constellations and unknown history emerge, beyond space and time. In this painterly research, overlapping connections of subject, culture, and nature often emerge and the viewer is allowed to become part of this fictional narrative. He paints and draws with oil and acrylic paints, varnishes, colored pencils and charcoal. He often uses found wood panels and papers as backgrounds for his compositions. Esperester is a modern storyteller with a classical painting style.
